A fan favourite, ‘The Castle Park Bandstand Concerts’ – presented by Cafe in the Park – returns in 2024!

The concerts are free to attend and do not require pre-booking – turn up, grab a coffee, and listen to some wonderful music!

Colne Endeavour Band- 19th May at 3pm

The Colne Endeavour Band is a charity run band. We love making music together and helping others to learn how to play too. So our members are from all ages and abilities – but we all have fun together. We play a very wide range of music, from marches to musicals, modern songs to classics. There’s always something for everyone!

Electro Jazz Orchestra (EJO)- 8th June at 4pm

Combining elements of more traditional big band with more modern tracks and
electronics, the Colchester based Electro Jazz Orchestra are bringing the concept of the
‘Big Band’ into the 21st Century, using ideas normally found in the pop world.

West Bergholt Band- 9th June at 3pm

West Bergholt Concert Band & Training Band were formed in 1978 to encourage young musicians and to perform all styles of music in a fun & friendly band. The band has raised over £46,000 for local & national charities in the last 20 years, and this year celebrate their conductor’s 30 years at the helm.

The Salvation Army- 23rd June at 3pm

The Salvation Army is a worldwide Christian church and registered charity, which has been fighting against social inequality and transforming lives for over 150 years. On June 23 The Salvation Army Band will be joined by the band from Cambridge Citadel.

SweetingSwingBand- 27th July at 4pm

The SweetingSwingBand are a local band who have been playing for private and public audiences for over 30 years, and on the bandstand for at least 15 years. Their varied toe-tapping repertoire covers the classics of the Big Band era through to custom arrangements of modern rock and pop favourites – there’s something for everyone!

The Abbeygate Concert Band- 11th August at 3pm

The Abbeygate Concert Band was established in 2002 and has about 35 musicians playing mainly brass and woodwind instruments. Our Musical Director is Stephen Watkins – conductor, composer and arranger. The band has a wide and varied repertoire which includes themes from shows and films, marches, jazz and swing, pop and light classical pieces.

Love2Sign- 17th August at 12pm

Love2sign is an award – winning community choir is made up of Hearing and D/deaf members with mixed signing ability. We sign a great mix of songs from classics through to contemporary pieces. Anne and Sue formed love2sign a 5years ago in Leigh-on-sea and in 2022, expanded to the Colchester area of Essex. The aim of the choir is to show that music can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of hearing ability. Love2sign is a group of people who all share and achieve this same aim by putting people at the heart of what we do.

St Peter’s Band- 17th August at 4pm

St Peter’s Band is the sister band to the Ipswich Hospital Band and was formed 16 years ago. It has since gone from strength to strength. It is a busy working band and over the years has raised thousands of pounds for local charities such as EACH, EAAA, St Elizabeth Hospice, Cancer Support in Suffolk, Heartbeat and SARS.  The Band plays at various local fetes and shows, including Heveningham Hall Country Fair, Offton Fete, Holbrook Fete and Saxmundham Arts Festival. At Christmas they join with the other 2 bands in the band family, Ipswich Hospital Band and Saints Community Band and play carols in small groups at various venues and Stores in around Ipswich in support of a local health related charity. St Peter’s Band has always been very well supported on Colchester Bandstand with large appreciative and supportive audiences.

Ruby Robinson Music- 18th August at 3pm

Introducing Ruby Robinson – The Jazz Diva of Our Era! Ruby has performed on stages all over the UK including prestigious venues such as Soho’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Piccadilly’s Crazy Coqs, The Phesantry in Chelsea, West End’s Cafe de Paris, and featured at Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club in NYC!
